Casino traffic flow discussed during the meeting

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Members of the Terre Haute and Churchill Downs Area Planning Commission discussed traffic plans for the casino. Earlier this year, Churchill Downs was granted a license to build the Queen of Terre Haute Casino.

At Monday’s committee meeting, members approved the change in position the building will face. The front of the casino will now face west, while the rear will face the Clabber Girl distribution center.

Churchill Downs senior vice president of property development Ryan Jordan said it would make the property more visible from I-70.

“The more visibility the property has, the more customers will come to the property, which is a win-win for everyone, so we are delighted to receive approval tonight and be able to move forward with our plans again. said Jordan.

Officials say the aim is to push casino traffic onto New Margaret Drive when completed. There will be three entrances to the casino from Old Margaret, New Margaret and Rockwood Lane.

As far back as the timeline. The FAA has yet to approve the casino plan due to its proximity to Terre Haute Regional Airport. It could happen in early May. A pickaxe could take place in May and the opening date at the end of 2023.
