Scribe: the online casino must become social

Shalva Bukia, product manager at Scribe, says interactive multiplayer games are the only way for the online gaming industry to compete with other entertainment options.

Traditionally, playing slots and table games online has been a solitary experience with no interactivity. Players simply open their favorite games and spin the reels for as long as they keep having fun.

But this one-dimensional experience is no longer enough and especially for operators looking to engage new audiences and especially the lucrative millennial and gen z demographics.

They are people who spend their hours of entertainment in highly social worlds where communication and interaction are the basis of experience. This includes social media, messaging apps, and video and mobile games.

This desire for shared experiences has accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic, with multiplayer games becoming increasingly popular. With physical interaction strictly limited, people had to turn to entertainment options that allowed for interaction and communication.

It’s a trend that has remained even with the worst of the pandemic now behind us. This is a trend that has also impacted the online casino industry.

You only have to look at the growing popularity of live casino to see that players are moving towards games that provide the opportunity to interact with others while still being able to gamble.

We have also seen a surge in popularity for our crash game series and in particular our Aviator title. It combines video game elements with gaming and the ability to play alongside other people and communicate through the chat function.

Crash games that are multiplayer and allow players to interact are the first step towards online casino content that can truly compete with the social opportunities provided by other entertainment options like social media.

“It’s also important for developers to help raise awareness and educate players”

They also give players an element of control over the outcome of the game, and it is this input that makes mobile and video games so engaging and engaging to play. Rather than just being along the journey, the player determines the journey and where it ends.

Traditional slot games, in comparison, offer a passive experience where the player simply clicks “spin” and then waits for the outcome to see if they have won or lost.

But interactive multiplayer casino games are just the start. If VR and the Metaverse properly enter the mainstream, then online gaming will have to follow.

This opens up huge opportunities for online casinos to become a truly immersive digital world for players to explore. This includes the ability to interact with other players in the online casino environment as well as play multiplayer games together.

Of course, this vision is far from a reality and other online casino brands that have experimented with the worlds of 3D and virtual reality in the past have had limited success.

That being said, it is clear that consumer preferences are changing, and particularly among the next generation of online casino players who expect social interaction to be incorporated into the vast majority of entertainment options they consume.

This means that operators should ensure that they start stocking casino games that allow multiplayer play and also allow participants to communicate with each other.

Crash games are the perfect place to start, but since it’s an entirely new game format, they really require a dedicated lobby and tab.

Operators should also look to run marketing campaigns to help educate players about what these games are, how they work, and the fun and interactive experience they provide.

It’s also important for developers to help raise awareness and educate gamers about crash games. This involves working closely with affiliates as they are deeply connected to gaming communities and provide a channel through which to connect directly with gamers.

Operators who are ready to embrace crash games and give them the positioning they deserve will eventually be able to engage millennial and gen z gamers. They will also be able to provide these consumers with a product that not only meets their entertainment needs, but exceeds them.

In short, the online casino must become social.
